The Oregon Ducks got the news on Wednesday evening that receiver Traeshon Holden will be available against No. 20 Illinois, according to James Crepea. This season, he’s hauled in 20 catches for 306 yards and three touchdowns. He did not play at all in the Oregon-Purdue game this weekend. Holden was seen on the sidelines in pads and helmet, but did not record any stats.

More on Traeshon Holden and his spitting incident

Saturday night was a special one for the Oregon Ducks, who were able to celebrate a 32-31 win over No. 2 Ohio State on their home field. It was a celebration that Oregon wide receiver Traeshon Holden wasn’t able to enjoy as much as his teammates after being ejected in the second quarter for spitting on a Buckeyes player.

Holden’s unsportsmanlike penalty was immediately seen by an official and by broadcast cameras, and was addressed by Oregon head coach Dan Lanning during his Monday press conference. “One, extremely disappointed in his actions within the game,” Lanning said. “There’s absolutely zero place for that in our program, zero place for that in football. I reached out to Coach Day and expressed my frustration in that situation.”

Along with reaching out to Ryan Day, Lanning also revealed Holden’s sentiments and that he would be punished internally for his actions. This comes after Holden penned a public apology for spitting on the visor of Ohio State defensive back Davison Igbinosun.

“I know Traeshon’s extremely apologetic, he’s embarrassed, he realizes how wrong he was in that moment, and we will handle some things internally,” Lanning said. “There is some discipline that exists there, but I’m gonna leave that for us internally to handle and communicate.”

Holden caught one pass for 32 yards before being ejected from the Oregon-Ohio State game. Entering the matchup as the team’s second leading the receiver that represented a costly loss in the passing game after being sent to the locker room in the beginning of the second quarter.

Texas A&M transfer Evan Stewart stepped up in Holden’s absence, ending the night with seven catches for a career-high 149 yards and a score. An increased role that he’ll have to play again if Holden’s internal punishment results in him missing any time in Oregon’s next matchup this weekend against Purdue.
