Traeshon Holden pens post addressing ejection, spitting on Ohio State player
Oregon receiver Traeshon Holden has issued an apology after he was ejected for spitting on Ohio State defender Davison Igbinosun on Saturday. Holden posted the message on X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday.
“I want to sincerely apologize for my actions during our recent game,” he wrote. “My actions were not only disrespectful but also a betrayal of the values of sportsmanship, integrity and respect that I strive to embody as a student-athlete. …To Ohio State, I offer my sincerest apologies for my behavior. It was completely unacceptable and a momentary lapse in judgment. I want to emphasize that this incident does not reflect who I am as a person or the values I aim to uphold.”
The spitting incident occurred early in the second quarter as Holden got tangled up with Igbinosun away from a play. After he appeared to be slightly shoved out of bounds, Holden took things way past the line and turned around to spit in the defender’s face.
Holden was escorted to the locker room and seen taking his helmet off before furiously throwing it while he walked down the tunnel. At some point he stopped and sat down on the ground against the wall with his head in his hands as a member of the Oregon staff consoled him.
Continuing with his apology, Holden said he will use the moment as a lesson to learn how to better handle his emotions in the heat of the game.

“Moving forward, I am committed to making meaningful changes, not only in managing my emotions during competition but in setting a better example for my teammates and the broader community,” he wrote. “I am determined to demonstrate growth and maturity, both on and off the field, and I hope to earn back the trust of those I’ve let down.
“This incident has been a valuable lesson, and I am dedicated to becoming a better player, teammate and positive role model in our community.”
Oregon went on to win 32-31 to improve to 6-0 on the season. The Ducks have a quick turnaround as they play Purdue on Friday, and there has been no word so far regarding any suspension of Holden for his actions.
