Oregon quarterback Ty Thompson posted an intriguing tweet Saturday afternoon. It came amid the news of Dillon Gabriel announcing his transfer to the Ducks, leaving Oklahoma after two seasons.

The tweet contains no caption, but just a picture of Thompson walking towards the facility with pads in hand. On the right third, there are multiple Oregon helmets.

Whatever it means, people are eagerly awaiting to see what Thompson’s up to. The tweet can be seen below.

In three seasons, Thompson played sparingly over the course of 17 games. The former highly touted recruit hasn’t broken through as the full-time starter.

Overall, he is 42-of-66 passing (63.6%) for 456 yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions.

As a member of the Class of 2021, Thompson was a five-star recruit out of Gilbert (Ari.) Mesquite, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 1 overall prospect in the state, the No. 6 quarterback in the class and the No. 31 overall prospect in the class.

Thompson was behind Heisman finalist Bo Nix this season. But at the very least, head coach Dan Lanning was high on Thompson back in the spring.

“Yeah, it’s great, you know, Ty did an awesome job,” Lanning said. “(He took a big shot today and) turned it into a big play touchdown opportunity. So it’s good to see him out there operate and execute at a high level.”

So does the cryptic tweet from Thompson mean he’s ready to go to work and make sure Gabriel has to earn the starting gig? Perhaps.

Or it could be a goodbye to the program since the transfer portal is still open. Interpret it however you want, but Thompson is keeping his thoughts close to the vest, at least for now.

This past season, Gabriel had arguably his best season. He finished with 3,660 yards, 30 touchdowns, six interceptions, a 69.3% completion percentage,  373 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns.

Over the course of his career, Gabriel has 14,865 yards, 125 touchdowns, 26 interceptions, a 63.1% completion percentage, 1,060 rushing yards and 26 rushing touchdowns.

As a member of the Class of 2019, Gabriel was a three-star recruit out of Mililani (Hawaii) High, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 7 overall prospect in the state, the No. 44 quarterback in the class and the No. 680 overall prospect in the class.
