WATCH: Oregon 4-star RB commit Dante Dowdell scores 37-yard touchdown to help win state championship
Picayune (Miss.) Picayune Memorial four-star running back Dante Dowdell won a state championship on Friday night. The Oregon commit played a key part in his school’s victory.
Dowdell scored three touchdowns in the 31-21 triumph over West Point (Miss.). On the third, he cut through traffic on the left side of the field to score a 37-yard touchdown.
The 6-foot-1.5, 210 pound prospect is the No. 184 overall prospect and No. 10 running back in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 4 player in Mississippi.

Dowdell is the only running back in Oregon’s 2023 recruiting class, which contains 24 commits. The group ranks No. 12 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 1 in the Pac-12.
Dowdell has an On3 NIL Valuation of $27K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

“Big downhill runner who is one of the more powerful running backs in the 2023 cycle. Measured at over 6-foot-1, 208 pounds prior to his senior season. Tests as a good athlete, running an electronically-timed 4.65 second 40-yard dash in addition to a 34 inch vertical. Very productive while carrying a big workload as a junior. Rushed for 2,406 yards (7.9 yards per carry) and 26 touchdowns.
“Bursts through the line and gets downhill quickly. Shows high-end power and ability to break tackles. Runs through arm tackles and shrugs off attempts. Has a nice stiff arm. Shows the speed to finish runs at his size. Runs with some violence. Can improve his ball skills as a pass catcher out of the backfield.”
