Junior Adams excited to work with transfer Tez Johnson
Oregon won 10 games in Dan Lanning‘s first season as coach, and the Ducks could be poised to take another step forward in 2023 thanks to the return of star quarterback Bo Nix and the addition of some impact transfers like Tez Johnson.
Johnson joined the team this spring after spending the last three years at Troy. He immediately earned praise from coaches this spring.
“Tez is on his way to being a pretty good player,” co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach Junior Adams said. “The cool thing about Tez, he’s consistent. And what I mean by consistent, he’s consistently the same person every day. He comes in at 6:30, he’s got a good smile on him, he brings some good energy, which he brings to that room. He’s been fun to work with.”
Johnson should add some instant firepower to the Ducks offense.
Each of the last two seasons he’s caught more than 50 passes and tallied more than 700 yards receiving. In his three-year career he has logged 141 catches for 1,598 yards and eight touchdowns.
Oregon’s offense was already pretty good in 2022.
The Ducks finished ranked sixth in total offense, averaging 500.5 yards per game, while they finished 10th in scoring offense after averaging 38.8 points per game.

Pieces like Tez Johnson, the transfer, should ensure that everyone stays pushing to be even better.
“Competition brings out the best in everyone, right?” Adams said. “I would say it’s not just in between the lines, it also is in the classroom. Literally we build competitions for them in the meeting room to where they’re competing against each other, too, which makes learning fun. So they’ve been a good group to work with so far.”
Transfer Tez Johnson proved he’ll be a part of the rotation at receiver in the team’s spring game, when he recorded three catches for 78 yards, including a 63-yard touchdown on a crossing route that he broke into green grass.
“He provides a unique spark on offense,” Nix said after the game, according to OregonLive. “We don’t really have a guy like that who’s a little scat guy. He does a good job when he gets the ball. A lot of those receivers, they do really good in competitive environments and that’s what you saw (Saturday).”
