Oregon State reveals AD Scott Barnes in stable condition, remains hospitalized
A recent update has been released regarding the medical condition of Oregon State Vice President and Athletic Director Scott Barnes following an undisclosed ‘medical event’ Saturday night.
ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg reported Sunday that Barnes remains hospitalized following the medical event, but is in stable condition at Saint Agnes Medical Center in Fresno, California. And that Oregon State will be working in tandem with Saint Agnes to provide an update on Sunday at 6 p.m. regarding Barnes’ condition.
Concerning Barnes and the medical attention at stake, Oregon State President Jayathi Y. Murphy said in a statement, “All of us at Oregon State University are grateful for the medical care that Scott is receiving.”
Barnes is 60 years old and a former Fresno State basketball player. He suffered from the medical scare on Saturday night while attending a Fresno State athletics awards, where he was set to receive an award. He has been the athletic director at Oregon State since December of 2016, but has also served in the same role since 1997, making stops at Humboldt State, Eastern Washington, Utah State, and Pittsburgh.

The Pac-12 Conference announced some harrowing news regarding Oregon State Athletic Director Scott Barnes on Sunday morning.
According to a press release sent out by the conference, Barnes suffered a “medical event” on Saturday. He’s now receiving medical attention in Fresno, California, and the Pac-12 made sure to relay that their thoughts are with him
“The Pac-12 released the following statement on April 22, 2023 on Oregon State Athletic Director Scott Barnes,” the release read. “Oregon State announced that Barnes experienced a medical event Saturday night while attending a Fresno State athletics awards presentation in Fresno, Calif and is receiving medical care at a Fresno area hospital.

Scott Barnes has been the Oregon State Athletic Director since Dec. 2016. The Beavers have made strides in many athletic programs over his watch, as he’s become a highly respected figure.
“In Barnes’ tenure, OSU Athletics has made significant strides academically and athletically,” the Oregon State website reads. “Beaver student-athletes are among the leaders in the Pac-12 Conference for academic accomplishments, the Valley Football Center officially re-opened and the popular Fan Experience Committee was created. In addition, he has increased the emphasis on fundraising and developing a sustainable business model that will ensure Beaver Athletics continues to progress and thrive, and debuted the BUILD THE DAM Strategic Plan to guide the program forward for future years.
“Facilities has been at the forefront of Barnes’ leadership at OSU. He has spearheaded facility projects that include a $3.5 million refresh of the Sports Performance Center, completion of phase II of the Valley Football Center, a remodel of the men’s and women’s basketball locker rooms, the construction of Casey Corner at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field, the remodel of Paul Lorenz Field (soccer), among other projects.”
