Oregon State AD Scott Barnes moved out of ICU after weekend hospitalization

Oregon State athletics director Scott Barnes has been moved out of the ICU and into a cardiac recovery area after being hospitalized over the weekend following a medical event.

The university put out a press release on Tuesday evening announcing the move.

“I am so thankful for the incredible immediate medical response that I received Saturday night, as well as the outstanding ongoing care provided at Saint Agnes Medical Center,” Scott Barnes said in the press release.

“I also have been blessed by the outpouring of love, care and support shown me and my family by members of Beaver Nation, the Fresno State community, friends and athletics colleagues from across the nation. Such support contributes greatly to the Barnes’ family and my own recovery. I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Barnes was at Fresno State over the weekend for an awards presentation when his medical event occurred. He previously played basketball at Fresno State.

He was taken to Saint Agnes Medical Center in Fresno for emergency medical care. Now out of the ICU, Scott Barnes will continue his recovery.

The current Oregon State athletics director assumed his post in late 2016.

Before his stint at Oregon State, Barnes spent three years at Pittsburgh‘s athletics director, working there from 2015-17. He was the athletics director at Utah State from 2008-15 prior to that.

Scott Barnes also had a stint as athletics director at Eastern Washington from 1999-2005, as well as a gig as an senior executive in the Washington athletics department from 2005-08.

In addition to the school, the conference also wished Barnes will in his recovery.

“All of us at Oregon State University are grateful for the medical care that Scott is receiving,” Oregon State president Jayathi Y. Murthy said in a statement.

Added the Pac-12:

“Scott Barnes is a dear friend, trusted colleague and incredibly loved man across the Oregon State and Pac-12 families and the entire college sports community. Our thoughts are with Scott and his family at this time.”
