Quarterback Drew Allar is ready to showcase the change in the Penn State Nittany Lions‘ offense ahead of the 2024 college football campaign.

The Nittany Lions have a new offensive coordinator calling the shots, with Andy Kotelnicki picking up the pieces from the Mike Yurcich era. While the former offensive coordinator helped mold Allar’s playing style, he’s loving what Kotelnicki has brought to Happy Valley, and where the offense can go from here.

“I’m really excited. Like, there’s a lot of things I can do in this offense that I think it’s going to be cool to put on tape, and I think it’s going to cause stress for defenses,” Allar responded, regarding whether he’s excited to put Penn State’s new offense into action. “Like, there’s a lot of pre-snap stuff you can do, but there’s also a lot of post-snap stuff you can do that’s going to just cause stress on defenses, challenge their rules and coverages, certain coverages.

I think the biggest thing is just how complimentary we’re going to be. Like, everything’s going to marry together. Everything is going to look the same. That’s one of the big, intentional points we made this offseason, of making everything look the same. The dig route has to look like the go-route, has to look like everything else, and I think that’s the biggest thing I’ve seen in like the receivers, they’re running everything like it’s a go, and I think it’s just creating a lot more separation for them, and just refining their techniques right now, but it’s been really cool to see how creative we can be on offense, and how simple it is for us, but how much stress it can cause for a defense.”

Evidently, Allar believes it’s going to be a headache for defenses to stop the Nittany Lions in 2024. That’s welcome news, as Penn State’s defense is shaping up to be a huge threat, so their chances to win the Big Ten really hinge on their quarterback’s production.

Allar wasn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination in 2023 — amassing 2,631 passing yards, 25 passing touchdowns and only two interceptions, but it’s the games against teams like Michigan and Ohio State everyone remembers, where it felt like he couldn’t match the opponent’s offense when on the field.

James Franklin is hoping the change to his coaching staff unlocks Drew Allar’s potential, and helps Penn State becoming the program many believe they can be in 2024. It remains to be seen, but confidence is soaring in Happy Valley at the moment.
