Medina (Ohio) High quarterback Drew Allar had a famous visitor on the sideline Friday night. And former NFL signal-caller Bernie Kosar was there, too.

Penn State’s five-star 2022 quarterback commit played host to his future coach, James Franklin, as Medina faced off against Lorain. Franklin was accompanied by offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich, as well.

Drew Allar still solid with Penn State

Allar, the No. 20 overall player in the 2022 On300 rankings and a recent recipient of five-star status, has been committed to Penn State since March. But that hasn’t stopped other schools from pursuing him, namely Ohio State. The Buckeyes offered the in-state star in early September after Quinn Ewers reclassified to the 2021 class.

But he remains committed to the Nittany Lions. He’s the centerpiece of Penn State’s top-ranked recruiting class and is unlikely to flip at last minute. Especially with how deep Ohio State’s quarterback room is and Penn State’s need for help at quarterback next year.

Starter Sean Clifford is a senior this season, and it’s uncertain whether he’ll try to go to the NFL or stick around for another year of eligibility. Regardless, Penn State fans saw what the future of the position on the roster is last week, and it wasn’t pretty. In replacement of Clifford after he was injured against Iowa, backup Ta’Quan Roberson completed just 7 of 21 passes for 34 yards and two interceptions.

If Clifford returns, Drew Allar is likely penciled as the backup. But if the incumbent decides to end his eligibility, Allar might have the chance to start as a true freshman.
