Redshirt sophomore Olu Fashanu is finally on the field for the Penn State Nittany Lions. The broad-framed offensive lineman is the starting right tackle for James Franklin’s club. After two years waiting in the wings, Fashanu is making every one of his starting snaps count. But for Franklin and staff, Fashanu’s excellent play as a starter comes as no surprise. They knew he was more than ready.

At his press conference this week, Coach Franklin was even asked about Fashanu and his growth. To which, Franklin answered by raving about him as a player and person.

“Yeah, he’s playing really well. We’ve had a ton of respect for Olu really since he stepped on campus. He’s one of those high-production, low-maintenance guys that really does everything right. You talk to the academic people about him, they love him. He’s done everything right since he stepped on camp.

“Olu’s one of those guys, you know, he just goes about his business. He does everything the right way. He’s extremely focused. His play strength is exceptional. There’s times, whether it’s in games or in practice, where one of our defensive ends or somebody will put a good move on him and catch him and he’s able to recover. His play strength is really impressive and he’s just consistent.”

Everybody loves Olu, from the head coach to the training staff.

James Franklin went on, emphasizing that point. That consistency is the key to unlocking a player’s potential on the football field.

“I think you guys have heard me talk about this. I know the team has heard me talk about this ad nauseam. That’s the difference at this level. The guys that consistently can do it. And his process and his habits are really good. It’s really not a surprise to any of us the level that he is playing at right now. I’ve been super impressed with him.”

A pat on the back for Olu Fashanu from the head coach.
