Injury update on Penn State running back Keyvone Lee
No. 22 Penn State suffered an injury to a key player early in Saturday’s game against Auburn. On the team’s second offensive drive of the game, running back Keyvone Lee was injured on a carry up the middle and was immediately taken to the injury tent on the sideline for further examination.
Lee gained two yards on first-and-10 from the Penn State 25-yard line on a drive immediately following an Auburn 31-yard field goal that put the Tigers ahead 3-0 in the first quarter.
As Lee was tackled by Auburn linebacker Owen Pappoe, he was wrapped up around the legs and multiple defenders piled on top as his legs were caught beneath the pile. Lee was helped off the field and immediately went to the injury tent.
“Update on Keyvone Lee, as you guys saw he needed some help getting inside the injury tent,” CBS sideline reporter Jenny Dell said. “He spent about a minute in there and then went right over to the (stationary) bike. I overheard him tell a teammate that something on his right side was twisted.
“I’m not sure if it was a knee or ankle but, guys, he’s doing everything in his power to try to get back in.”

Owen Pappoe active early on vs. Penn State
Pappoe, who was in on the tackle on Lee, has had quite an active start to the game. Along with his tackle on Lee, Owen Pappoe delivered a huge hit on Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford on the first drive of the game.
Clifford was nearing the first-down marker on a third-and-9 carry on the opening drive for the Nittany Lions before Pappoe clobbered him. The ball came loose and Penn State recovered, albeit short of the sticks.
Penn State coach James Franklin opted to go for it on fourth down, but Auburn came up with a stop.
The Tigers were able to turn the early stop on the Nittany Lions’ 47-yard line into a field goal to take a 3-0 lead. But the Nittany Lions raced right back out to the lead on the drive Lee was injured on, capitalizing with a touchdown run by Clifford on a 7-yard scamper on a quarterback keeper.
Penn State led 7-3 at the end of the first quarter.
