LOOK: Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford in-game injury update
After exiting Saturday’s game against Iowa because of injury in the second quarter, there is an update on Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford. The starter appears to be done for the day as he was seen roaming the sidelines without a helmet or shoulder pads in the second half.
Backup quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson entered the game for the injured Clifford, who has struggled so far against Iowa. He has thrown two interceptions so far in the game but, then he ran in this score for six for the Nittany Lions. Roberson hasn’t done much better in his place, throwing an interception of his own.
Iowa cut the Penn State lead to 17-10 at halftime, but the Nittany Lions tacked on a field goal in the third quarter to make it 20-10.
In the first half, Clifford completed 15 of his 25 pass attempts.
Coming into the game, it was billed as one of the most anticipated bouts of the 2021 college football season. Both teams are undefeated and ranked inside the top 5. Add to this the fact that Penn State is the only remaining undefeated Big Ten East team to face the Hawkeyes, and this game is pivotal.
In 2019, Clifford threw for 2,654 yards, while tossing in 23 touchdowns and seven interceptions. In 2020, he took a bit of a step back, throwing for 1,883 yards, while tossing in 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

So far in the 2021 season, he’s thrown for over 1,300 passing yards, while tossing in 11 touchdown passes and five interceptions. Iowa has forced two of those interceptions this afternoon.
If Penn State can hang on, it would be one of three remaining undefeated schools in the conference. Michigan State took out Rutgers to improve to 6-0, while Michigan will face Nebraska at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The Nittany Lions Will hope the injury to Sean Clifford isn’t serious, but the latest update doesn’t look good for the quarterback.
