Fall camp is in full swing for college football teams across the country and that means it’s time to strap on the pads and see what playmakers want to separate themselves from the pack. Marquis Wilson is well on his way to standing out from the crowd. That’s because the Penn State defensive back made what will undoubtedly go down as one of the best catches across the country in the Nittany Lions’ fall camp on Wednesday, reeling in an insane one-handed grab with his right hand in a one-on-one drill against Parker Washington.

What a spectacular grab by Wilson. That catch alone makes him a name to remember this fall. Last season, he showcased his versatility for the Nittany Lions, playing on both sides of the football against Ball State on Sept. 11. Wilson was the first player for Penn State to appear on both sides of the ball since Dae’Lun Darien did it against Maryland in 2017.

During the 2021 season, he appeared in eight games, playing on both offense and defense. Wilson tallied six tackles for loss and a pass breakup on defense, while hauling in three catches for 29 yards on offense. If he keeps making highlight reel grabs like the one above, he’s going to be impossible to keep of the field this fall.

In the 2019 season, Wilson forced three fumbles, ranking him 12th in the FBS in the category and fifth in the Big Ten. As a high school prospect, Wilson was rated as a four-star recruit in the 2019 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus Rankings. He played his high school football for Avon Old Farms School (Windsor, Connecticut). He was rated as the No. 32 cornerback prospect in America and the No. 4 overall prospect in the state of Connecticut.

Wilson was instrumental in guiding the Warriors to a state championship game appearance during the 2016 season. The Connecticut native earned all-state honors as a wideout after hauling in 37 catches for 765 yards and six touchdowns as a junior. He also showcased his ball skills on the other side of the football, racking up 51 tackles and snatching four interceptions.
