After weeks of speculation and hints that his recruitment was about to open back up, On300 safety Jordan Allen officially announced Monday on social media that he was no longer committed to Penn State.
“After careful thought and consideration, I have decided to reopen by recruiting journey,” said Allen, an On300 safety from Lafayette (La.) Christian Academy. “I am looking ahead to continuing the process as I decommit myself from Penn State University.”
Allen, who is 6-foot and 180 pounds, originally committed to Penn State earlier this summer on July 17. He originally picked the Nittany Lions over Georgia, Louisville, Miami, Ole Miss and more than 30 other scholarship offers.
Local school LSU has also been ramping up its interest in Allen. He visited for a game earlier in the season. But with the Tigers looking for a new head coach, it’s up in the air how serious that recruitment is now.

Jordan Allen decommits after big loss
Jordan Allen’s announcement comes on the heels of Penn State losing to Illinois as a 24.5-point favorite in nine overtimes. Penn State has a top-five recruiting class, even without, Allen. But the loss certainly doesn’t help the Nittany Lions when it comes to finishing strong with the 2022 cycle.
Penn State is trying to score style points with the top remaining targets in the 2022 class. They’ll also trying to continue to get a good head start on the 2023 cycle.
As a head coach, the last thing that James Franklin wants to do is go into living rooms with seniors and have to answer questions about the unexplainable loss.
Franklin is also being talked about as a serious candidate for the recent round of job openings, including USC.
