Penn State fell to Ohio State last Saturday on the road in a gritty 20-12 loss that represented the first of the Nittany Lions’ season. Emotions were high for Penn State players following the heartbreaking defeat to a rival opponent, but the team now shifts their focus towards their matchup against Indiana this weekend.

Head coach James Franklin was asked on Wednesday how he felt his team has responded to their most recent loss, revealing that asking about it surely isn’t helping their efforts in moving forward.

“I think good,” Franklin said. “I mean to be honest with you, we’ve had discussions about moving the press conference to Monday for a little bit of that reason so we can move on and not keep doing this. Not keep going back and taking about it.”

“I get that you guys ask the questions, but for us one of the ways to move on is to stop talking about it and the hard part is you guys want to talk it which I get it, I totally get it. But it’s kind of sending mixed messages right?” Franklin asked.

The Ohio State loss is certainly going to be the elephant in the room for the remainder of the week, as the Nittany Lions entered the matchup undefeated with what many regarded as one of their most talented rosters ever under Franklin.

Franklin’s record versus the Buckeyes now sits at 1-9 since becoming Penn State’s head coach, as losses to Ohio State and Michigan over the years have hindered the Nittany Lions from taking the next step in postseason play.

Penn State only dropped three spots in the AP Top 25 Poll following last weekend, now ranked the No. 10 team in the country. A win over Michigan later in the season and other dominos falling in their favor could possibly reinsert them back into the Big Ten Championship and College Football Playoff conversation, but for now, they have their sights set on hosting the Hoosiers this Saturday.

“The best way to move on is to focus on the next opponent, learn from it which we did on Saturday night, which we did all day Sunday. But then it’s time to move on to the next opponent,” Franklin said. “Learn the lessons from the game, make the corrections, and then pour all of our energy into finding a way to get a win against Indiana and playing well so we can build that confidence and take it for the rest of the season.”

Penn State and Indiana will square off on Saturday at noon ET in a game airing on CBS.
