James Franklin provides an update on the status of Penn State's facility upgrades
Penn State has always been one of the historic and premiere names in the college football, and in the last couple years have been working towards making their facilities match that level of pedigree. At Big Ten media day, head coach James Franklin gave an update on how their recent renovations to their facility have been going.
“Yeah, so I think people that have kind of followed our facility, we’ve made some great progress. I’m really excited about what we’ll be moving into from a training table, from a nutrition area and from a weight room perspective this summer. We’re a little bit behind schedule but it will work out well,” Franklin said.
Along with upgrades in nutrition, Penn State has committed to upgrades to the Lasch Football building, a $48.3 million project that was approved last year.
“I actually had an opportunity to walk through it the other day and was very impressed. We still have not touched our second floor, which is where the coaches are, except we did get carpet. We got new carpet in the last 30 years, so that was a step in that area. But that was very important to me when we came to Penn State, that we take care of the players’ areas first. So I think the plan is right now at the end of the season we would finish that last stage of our last football building and then kind of go from there,” Franklin said.

The Nittany Lions secured a top ten recruiting class this year according to On3’s Consensus Football Team Recruiting Rankings, and these facility upgrades that are currently in the works can definitely help them in recruiting even more. It’s clear that Franklin and Penn State have a vision for the future of their facilities and operations in Happy Valley, as they continue to push towards making more positive changes for the program.
“I think some of the other things after that are kind of more big-picture with the athletic department, but the good thing is, like you mentioned, me and Pat have really been aligned throughout the entire process of things that he feels strongly about I agree with and vice versa, so that’s been very helpful,” Franklin said.
