The new year has been kind to Penn State as the Nittany Lions build their 2024 class. With six commitments already in 2023, Penn State landed the gem of its class so far in Belle Vernon (Pa.) four-star athlete Quinton Martin.

Martin’s pledge elevated the Nittany Lions’ 2024 recruiting class to No. 12 in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Penn State’s group, which also ranks No. 1 in the Big Ten, rose two spots from No. 12.

Martin’s commitment to the Nittany Lions comes 11 days after he took his eighth visit to campus. He’s visited Penn State more than any other school up to this point in his recruitment.

“Quinton Martin has been considered Penn State’s top 2024 prospect for over a year now,” BWI’s Ryan Snyder noted. “The Belle Vernon native is arguably the best true athlete to come out of Pennsylvania since Micah Parsons.

“Although he’ll likely start his career at running back, he brings positional flexibility that not too many players can match. He’ll end up being one of the top players in the class and should only help James Franklin and his staff lock up additional prospects throughout the region.”

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Martin is the No. 41 overall prospect and No. 3 athlete in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 1 player in Pennsylvania.

“What I liked the most was just having my parents up there with me,” Martin told On3 following the March 27 visit. “I think it was great for them to experience everything that Penn State has to offer. We really got to see a lot.

“I got to do a photoshoot with them again, which is always a cool time. I got to ride through the campus today, too. Just the whole day was a highlight.”

Martin adds to another strong class for Penn State

While Ohio State and Michigan have separated themselves at the top of the conference with the top 2024 classes so far, Penn State isn’t far off with the commitments they’ve picked up so far this year.

Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic four-star linebacker Anthony Speca kicked off Penn State’s 2024 class on Jan. 17. Erie (Pa.) McDowell four-star interior offensive lineman Cooper Cousins committed to Penn State 12 days after Speca and the rest of the class has committed during the spring.

The rest of Penn State’s class aside from Martin, Cousins and Speca includes Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin four-star cornerback Jon Mitchell, Bloomfield Hills (Mich.) West Bloomfield three-star linebacker Kari Jackson, Philadelphia (Pa.) Imhotep Institute three-star cornerback Kenny Woseley and Westford (Mass.) Cheshire Academy three-star tight end Luke Reynolds.
