It might only be Thursday but Week 1 of college football has already delivered. Penn State‘s win over Purdue was the latest example, with Sean Clifford having the drive of a lifetime to get the Nittany Lions a huge Big Ten victory. He might have been dealing with some injuries but Clifford came through when called upon.

After the game, Clifford gave an update on his health after a scare during the game. He said “minor injuries” were dealt with throughout the entire week. Going forward, they are “controllable” and not something that should affect Clifford.

“I had a couple of minor injuries this week,” said Clifford. “It’s something controllable. I’ll be able to take care of it and not have that happen again. It was definitely not fun.”

Clifford left the field for a drive to begin the second half, letting true freshman Drew Allar get into the game. Nonetheless, once he returned, the Penn State starting quarterback was able to lead his team to victory and begin the season 1-0.

Clifford shared a moment with head coach James Franklin after the game. The two were rightfully celebrating the win and the quarterback’s heroics. Shortly after, Clifford admitted it was not his best game but getting the win is nice. He also described what the moment with Franklin meant to him.

“Sometimes, it’s about pulling it off,” Clifford said. “And that’s what we did tonight. I didn’t play my best ball, we had mistakes all over the field. In the end, win the game and that’s what we did. It was just nice to share that moment with coach.”

With the first game over, Penn State has now moved on to the next one. Even after a crazy win such as Thursday’s, Clifford said the team’s mentality is “a 1-0” one as they look to build off Purdue.

“It’s just a 1-0 mentality,” the quarterback said. “You can’t go 2-0 if you don’t go 1-0. So, it’s just one of those games where you got to battle it out. Make sure that you’re on your best every single play. A team like Purdue, you got to give it to them. They’re a hell of a team and it was just really exciting to be able to come in here, such a great atmosphere, and get the win.”

Ohio is next up before traveling down south for what should be an electric matchup against Auburn. Clifford will need to continue his heroics over the next few weeks as Penn Stae looks to push forward in the 2022 season.
