It didn’t take long for Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford to stamp his name on the Nittany Lions record books in a variety of ways on Saturday night against the Maryland Terrapins. Penn State dominated Maryland from the jump and Clifford went to work, shattering a couple of historic milestones. First, he passed Trace McSorley as the school’s all-time passing yardage leader early in the game. On the first offensive series of the game, Clifford completed a 16-yard strike to tight end Brenton Strange to officially become Penn State’s all-time passing yardage leader (9,902 passing yards). McSorley had been the school’s all-time leading passer with 9,899 career passing yards before moving onto the Baltimore Ravens in the National Football League.

Then, later in the game, Clifford completed a 33-yard pass to tight end Theo Johnson to eclipse 10,000 passing yards for his Penn State career. In doing so, he became the first Nittany Lion quarterback to throw for over 10,000 yards in their career. Not only that, but Clifford also became just the 7th signal-caller in Big Ten Conference history to eclipse 10,000 passing yards, joining the likes of former Purdue quarterbacks such as Drew Brees and Curtis Painter.

Penn State has simply dominated Saturday night’s game from start to finish. It was a thorough demolition of the Maryland Terrapins and the Nittany Lions shut them out, 30-0. While Clifford doesn’t have much of a future at all in the National Football League, he can still rest easy knowing that he peppered his name all over the school record books during his time in Happy Valley.
