Report: Sean Clifford to visit Green Bay Packers prior to NFL Draft
The Green Bay Packers will host former Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford for a pre-draft visit, according to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.
Amid the Aaron Rodgers trade saga with New York Jets, as in will they or won’t they, Jordan Love is expected to be QB1 in 2023. But that doesn’t mean the team won’t do its due diligence when it comes to quarterbacks behind Love or for the future.
Clifford said he was “snubbed” from the NFL Scouting Combine, so perhaps he has a bit of a chip on his shoulder.
“The Packers are continuing their pre-draft quarterback work,” Demovsky wrote on Twitter. “Penn State’s Sean Clifford, the Rose Bowl offensive MVP, will meet with the Packers tomorrow on a Top 30 visit.”
In his Penn State career, Clifford finished with 10,661 yards, 86 touchdowns, 31 interceptions and a 61.4% completion percentage. He added 1,073 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns.
Clifford scored himself a top-30 visit based on his college career and his Pro Day showing for Penn State.
“I feel like I was snubbed with the Combine for sure,” Clifford said. “The body of work that I’ve had with these teams here; when I didn’t see my name as a Combine guy, I felt disrespected for sure. But, hey, it’s just more fuel to the fire.

“Being able to come out here, show the scouts what I got, and being able to really just put on a show, it’s been a lot of fun, and a good way to cap off a great career at Penn State. So I’m really thankful.”
Clifford clocked a 4.57-second 40-yard dash and felt he was impressed with his speed.
If the former Nittany Lion goes to the Packers, it could indicate the team is ready to move on from Rodgers more than revealed already. But, a deal could be done prior to the draft.
It appears the Packers want to hand the keys to Love but Clifford coming in, after a successful college career, could be interesting.
As a member of the Class of 2017, Clifford was a four-star recruit out of Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 4 overall prospect in the state, the No. 12 quarterback in the class and the No. 183 overall prospect in the class.
