After announcing his intentions to transfer to UConn on Dec. 28, former Penn State dual-threat quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson has officially signed his NLI with UCONN.

A former four-star prospect according to the On3 Consensus ratings, Roberson announced his decision to enter the portal on December 13, landing at UConn just over two weeks later.

Roberson appeared in three games for the Nittany Lions this season, completing 11 of his 28 pass attempts for 85 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He also carried the ball 12 times for 24 yards.

His most meaningful appearance came against a then-undefeated Iowa Hawkeye team when starter Sean Clifford left the game late in the first half due to injury. Roberson was tasked to try and protect the Nittany Lion lead, but eventually fell 23-20 after leading his team to just three points in the second half.

True freshman Christian Veilleux passed Roberson on the depth chart by the end of the season. Add a pair of other talented signal-callers in Beau Pribila and Drew Allar joining the Nittany Lion QB room and it was only inevitable that Roberson would be forced to find a new start elsewhere.

Roberson joins a Husky team that finished last season 1-11. Six different quarterbacks saw action in games last season thanks to injury and inconsistency and achieved a combined completion percentage of 51.1.

Roberson will join Tyler Phommachanh (25-72, 321 yards, one touchdown). Steven Krajewski, the man who replaced Phommachanh after his season-ending injury and now Cale Millen, who transferred in from Northern Arizona after spending a season with the Oregon Ducks.

He will play for Jim L. Mora, who took the open job as UConn’s head coach on November 11 after spending one season as their offensive coordinator. Mora spent over two decades coaching in the NFL from 1985-2009 including stints as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons.

Mora joined the collegiate ranks for the first time since 1984 when he became head coach of the UCLA Bruins, where he stayed from 2012-2017.

Since his time at UCLA ended, Mora has been an analyst for ESPN before joining UConn last season, and now he’s taking one of the more challenging jobs in the nation.

UConn hasn’t had a winning season since 2010. With Jim Mora, they’re swinging big to fix their troubles once and for all and hopes that with the edition of Roberson can help them along the way.
