Nearly 24 hours before the huge clash against Ohio State, there is no official starting quarterback for Penn State. Drew Allar suffered a knee injury against Wisconsin, meaning Beau Pribula had to finish out the game. Head coach James Franklin has not discussed who will take the first snap of Saturday’s contest quite yet.

If Pribula does wind up playing, there is a ton of confidence in him inside the locker room. Tight end Tyler Warren knows what Pribula is capable of doing when running the offense. There will be no “panic” if Allar is not able to suit up.

“He’s done it before,” Warren said. “Coming in vs. Rutgers and kind of doing something similar. We’ve seen it all through camp. It’s not really any sense of panic when that situation comes about. We know what Beau can do and the type of leader and competitor he is. I think it’s really just going out, playing the game, and understanding there’s still a job to do. And he’s capable of doing anything you ask of him at the quarterback position.”

Pribula has gotten plenty of snaps this season, even if Allar was healthy. Penn State would insert him into the game to bring something new, usually being a package to run the ball. On 21 attempts, Pribula has 133 yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback is obviously the position Pribula plays but Warren is confident if the coaching staff needed him to play elsewhere, the job would get done.

“He’s one of the better football players on our team,” Warren said. “If they told him to go play linebacker, he’d go do it and he’d go play linebacker. He’s a great football player in general.”

Getting the start against Ohio State would be the biggest stage of Pribula’s career if needed to play all four quarters. Not many programs have a sense of comfort with inserting a backup quarterback, let alone in such a massive game. But Pribula and his teammates clearly feel different and will be ready to rock at noon in Happy Valley.
