The Backyard Brawl carries weight throughout the year, not just on game week. So, it’s not surprising to see that Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi took the time to troll West Virginia head coach Neal Brown on social media.

The troll came in the form of a post-practice tweet from Narduzzi. There, in the wake of comments that Brown that garnered criticism from West Virginia fans, in which he said that he hoped fans enjoyed themselves and good weather following a loss.

“Great work during our bye week practices,” Narduzzi posted. “Did we enjoy it? [check mark emoji] Nice weather? [check mark emoji] #ProveIt#H2P.”

The comments from Neal Brown came following a frustrating loss to Iowa State at home. With that, the Mountaineers dropped to 3-3 on the season and 34-32 over the course of his tenure. For many fans, the comments came off as though Brown was saying that winning was less important than having a good time.

“I get that they want to win,” Brown said. “But what I would say is, did they have a good time? Did they enjoy it? It was a pretty good atmosphere. You know, I’m assuming they probably had a pretty good time tailgating. So if they’re in the deal for enjoyment, then I would come back. I looked at the weather, and it’s going to be nice again. It’s a night game, and we need them to provide a home-field advantage.”

Brown went on to note that West Virginia has played against a very tough schedule this season. So, while he understands some of their frustrations, he does believe that that he product on the field has been good.

That’s not an excuse; it’s just the truth,” Brown said. “The games in our league are going to come down to the fourth quarter, and I don’t think this on one Saturday’s going to be any different. So we need [the fans] to help us. I do get their frustration. But I don’t think when you watch our product, I don’t think the product is something that they should be — other than the outcome … it was an entertaining football game. If you’re a football fan and just watching that, it’s pretty entertaining. We just didn’t play well enough to win. So I hope with that in mind, they would come back for another entertaining game that hopefully we can play better at the end and win.”

This season, Pitt and Pat Narduzzi helped contribute to the frustrations for West Virginia and Neal Brown. The Panthers won the Backyard Brawl in a thriller earlier this season. That game saw Pitt score a touchdown in the final minute to take the lead. It also moved Brown to 1-2 against Pitt.

For his part, Narduzzi and Narduzzi are 6-0 on the season and 2-0 in ACC play. So, clearly, Narduzzi is coming from a place of confidence when he goes to troll his Backyard Brawl rival.
