The Pittsburgh Panthers are expected to hire Frank Cignetti as their new offensive coordinator, with a deal to be finalized in the near future, per Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel.

Cignetti replaces the spot vacated by former Pitt offensive coordinator Brennan Marion, who moved onto the same role with the Texas Longhorns this off-season.

At Pittsburgh, he’ll be working with former USC quarterback, Kedon Slovis, who recently transferred to Pitt.

Cignetti was previously the offensive coordinator at Boston College and a longtime NFL assistant. In 2020, Boston College quarterback Phil Jurkovec threw for 2,558 passing yards in his first 10 starts–the most by any quarterback in program history. He was one of the more underrated passers in the ACC.

In 2021, Jurkovec played in just six games of the Eagles’ 2021 season due to breaking a bone in his hand against UMass. The talented signal-caller figures to be one of the top quarterbacks in the conference for the 2022 season.

Cignetti also coached former Eagles’ tight end Hunter Long to a very promising career. Long became the highest drafted tight end in school history when the Miami Dolphins selected him in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft.  The New Hampshire native led all tight ends nationally in receptions (57) and ranked second in receiving yards (685) behind Florida’s Kyle Pitts.

Before Boston College, Cignetti coached Aaron Rodgers, Eli Manning, and Sam Bradford during his 11 years in the National Football League.

It should also be noted that Cignetti is a native of Pittsburgh. Cignetti’s older brother, Curt Cignetti, is currently the head football coach at James Madison.

Frank Cignetti began his coaching career as a graduate assistant under Mike Gottfried at the University of Pittsburgh in 1989. His father, Frank Sr. was selected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
