3-star ATH Zion Fowler decommits from Pittsburgh
Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peters Prep three-star athlete Zion Fowler decommitted from Pittsburgh on Friday. He was previously committed to the Panthers since Oct. 26, 2021.
Fowler is the No. 1,020 overall prospect and No. 59 athlete in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 15 player in New Jersey.
On3 rates Fowler higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Even though he is not ranked in the 2023 On300, Fowler is the No. 56 athlete in the country.
“First, I would like to thank Pitt, Coach Narduzzi, and staff for recruiting and developing a personal relationship with me and my family,” Fowler wrote in a statement published to social media. “Thank you to the Pitt fans who have been a great support throughout my recruitment. After difficult discussions with my family, I will be decommitting from Pitt and opening up my recruitment.”
Following Fowler’s decommitment, the Panthers’ 2023 recruiting class ranks No. 42 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 7 in the ACC. This is Pittsburgh’s second decommitment this week after Hendersonville (Tenn.) Pope John Paul II four-star quarterback Kenny Minchey backed off his pledge on Nov. 14.

The Panthers currently have 15 commitments. The group is led by Snellville (Ga.) Shiloh three-star cornerback Brice Pollock, the No. 461 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus.
Fowler holds two others offers in addition to Pittsburgh. They are from Duke and Louisville.
The Panthers received two visits from Fowler since the summer. He took an official visit on June 3 and returned for an unofficial on Sept. 10, the day of Pittsburgh’s 34-27 loss to Tennessee.
Fowler has an On3 NIL Valuation of $19.8K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
