Duncan Powell commits to transfer to Providence

Duncan Powell originally committed in the portal to play next season in the Big East. He’ll now be doing so again with a commitment to a second program in the conference during this cycle.
Powell has committed to Providence in the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3’s Joe Tipton has reported. That comes two weeks after originally choosing to go to Georgetown. With that, Powell has introduced himself to the program on Twitter.
“The Best Haircut in College Basketball, The Shagman , The Cornerman , The Jankyman,” Powell tweeted. “Call me whatever you want. #GoFriars”
Powell spent last season at Georgia Tech after previously playing for a season at Sacramento State and two at North Carolina A&T. He has, in that career with the Yellow Jackets, Hornets, and Aggies, averaged 10.7 points (45.4% FG, 31.7% 3PT), 5.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. That included one of the best seasons of his career in his first at the power level with 12.2 points (44.1% FG, 35.8% 3PT on 1.6 makes) and 5.4 rebounds per game for GT.
After entering the portal three weeks ago, Powell first committed within that first week to Georgetown. However, this weekend two weeks later, he shared on social media that he had decommitted from the Hoyas.

“After careful consideration and discussion with my family, I have decided to decommit from Georgetown and reopen my recruitment,” Powell tweeted on Saturday evening. “This was not an easy decision, and I am extremely grateful for the support I’ve received throughout this process. I’m excited for the future.”
Now, Powell is the fifth addition in the portal during this cycle so far for the Friars. He joins Jason Edwards (Vanderbilt), Jaylin Sellers (UCF), Daquan Davis (Florida State), and Cole Hargrove (Drexel). That’s after losing seven players by way of transfer now with Bryce Hopkins (St. John’s), Jayden Pierre (TCU), and Christ Essandoko (South Carolina) along with Jabri Abdur-Rahim, Justyn Fernandez, Eli Delaurier, and Anton Bonke.
