Former Florida State point guard Daquan Davis committed to Providence out of the NCAA transfer portal. He spent one season with the Seminoles.

Davis began the year coming off the bench but eventually took over a starting role and began 20 of the 31 games he played in, missing just one game all season. Playing over 25 minutes per game, Davis averaged 8.8 points, 2.5 assists, 2.3 rebounds and more than a steal per game. He shot 36.1% from the field and was an 82.6% free throw shooter this season.

Florida State finished the season with a 17-15 record after bowing out in the first round of the ACC Tournament earlier this week. With Leonard Hamilton stepping down from his longtime post as head coach, Davis went on the move.

As a member of the Class of 2024, Davis was a four-star recruit out of Baltimore (M.D.) St. John’s (Washington D.C.), according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Davis also played for Overtime Elite in Georgia and was the No. 11 overall prospect in the state, the No. 16 point guard in the class and the No. 106 overall prospect in the class.

Daquan Davis adds to Providence basketball roster

Davis comes in at a good time as Providence tries to solidify its roster. Forward Bryce Hopkins recently left and committed to St. John’s.

Hopkins has a very complete player profile, pouring in 17 points per game, 7.7 rebounds per game, and 3.0 assists per game this season while shooting 40.0% from the field. As a three-point shooter Hopkins drilled 40.0% from beyond the arc this year for the Friars. Providence struggled to a 12-20 record this year, but they only had him out there in three games. On January 18th, he suffered a knee injury, forcing him to miss the remainder of the 2024-2025 college basketball season.

In the 2023-2024 campaign, Hopkins averaged 15.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game, once again showcasing what a complete player he is. His three-point percentage numbers dipped a bit to 18.9%. Much like the previous season, Hopkins once again suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Providence-Seton Hall matchup on January 3rd, 2024. Before going down with the injury, he played in 14 games, all of which he started.
