Arkansas State transfer DL Ian Jeffries commits to Purdue

Former Arkansas State defensive lineman Ian Jeffries has committed to Purdue, via the NCAA Transfer Portal. Jeffries spent two seasons at Arkansas State but redshirted his true freshman season.
In the 2023 campaign, Jeffries appeared in all 13 of the Red Wolves’ games. He tallied 21 tackles, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble. He saw action in three games during his true freshman season.
Ian Jeffries played high school football at Southaven (MS), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 1,651 overall player and No. 169 defensive lineman in the 2023 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Jeffries boosted Southaven to a 10-0 regular-season mark and district title. He also received offers from Illinois, Indiana, Liberty and Georgia State while in high school.
He will be part of a complete rebuild at Purdue. Over 30 players have joined the Boilermakers via the transfer portal this offseason. The program has suffered a mass exodus this offseason after firing head coach Ryan Walters and hiring former UNLV head coach Barry Odom.
As of this report, 50 Purdue players have entered the transfer portal this offseason. The Boilermakers are currently ranked last of all Power Four programs in On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Rankings.

Despite the undeniable hitches in Purdue’s offseason, Barry Odom is pushing forward to prepare his team for the upcoming season. Moreover, he’s letting his team know it.
“If you got a chance to stop by the office, I’d love to sit down and visit with you,” Odom told Purdue’s players in his first team meeting. “But then, we gotta go to work. I look around the building and there’s everything here that is built for a successful program and a successful team.
“It wasn’t that long ago that Purdue was competing and winning championships and it’s our vision and our goal and my mindset that that’s exactly where we’re going to get back to. And we’re going to get back to it really, really quickly. You guys understand that?”
Odom has a tall task ahead of him. Purdue went 1-11 last season and 0-9 in conference play.
