Daniel Jacobsen injury update: Purdue center out for season with broken tibia
The Purdue Boilermakers had their worst fears confirmed on Sunday afternoon, when they learned the injury update on freshman center Daniel Jacobsen. According to Boilermakers head coach Matt Painter, Jacobsen will miss the season with a broken tibia.
Jacobsen, 7-4, 230 pounds, was a late climber in the recruiting rankings his senior season, jumping all the way into the Top 60 overall prospects in the country, according to some services. According to the On3 Industry Rankings for the 2024 cycle, he was tabbed as the No. 139 overall player in the country and a three-star prospect.
Jacobsen was a late addition to the Boilermakers’ 2024 class, and turned down offers from Wisconsin, Creighton, Iowa, Minnesota, Clemson, and Xavier. He will be medically redshirting for the 2024-2025 college basketball campaign.
As a senior for Brewster Academy (New Hampshire), Jacobsen averaged 7.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. One of the nation’s powerhouse programs, Brewster finished the 2023-2024 season ranked No. 9 in the SC Next Top 25 high school rankings.

Jacobsen shined at the Peach Jam, one of the premiere events in AAU basketball. There, he averaged 12.2 points and 9.1 rebounds in 19 minutes while being featured in the pick-and-roll. He also played with JL3 Elite out of Houston on the Nike EYBL circuit. He shot 49.2 percent from beyond-the-arc, earning standout honors at Session II. The big man started his high school basketball in New Mexico, where he averaged 6.2 points and 6.1 rebounds as a sophomore in high school.
Purdue currently sits at 2-0 on the 2024 season. Now that Jacobsen is done for the year, one candidate to likely get some more minutes is forward Caleb Furst, who stands at 6-10, 235 lbs. Last season, he appeared in 36 games, averaging 2.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per game in nine minutes per outing.
Before going down with his injury, Jacobsen was averaging 6.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Next up for the Boilermakers, they’ll face off against the Yale Bulldogs on Monday, Nov. 11. Tip-time for that one is slated for 8:00 PM in West Lafayette, Indiana.
