Geismar (La.) Dutchtown three-star interior offensive lineman Ethan Fields announced his decommitment from Purdue on Friday. He was previously pledged to the Boilermakers since June 27.

Fields is the No. 1,181 overall prospect and No. 110 interior offensive lineman in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 45 player in Louisiana.

On3 rates Fields higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Even though he is not ranked in the 2023 On300, Fields is the No. 62 interior offensive lineman and No. 37 player in Louisiana.

“I would like to thank the entire @BoilerFootball, @Coach_Walters, Coach @drwilliams131, @CoachNatePurdue, the Purdue Administration, and the BolierNation fans,” Fields wrote in a statement published to social media. “Due to the recent changes over the last two weeks, I have explored additional options and have decided to decommit.”

Purdue’s 2023 recruiting class now contains 13 players. Since head coach Jeff Brohm departed for Louisville, multiple players have backed off their commitments to the Boilermakers. They include Fields, Louisville (Ky.) St. Xavier three-star EDGE Micah Carter and Henderson (Ky.) Henderson County three-star defensive lineman Saadiq Clements.

More on Fields’ recruitment

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Ole Miss now holds a commanding lead for Fields’ commitment at 96%. The 6-foot-2, 323-pound prospect started an official visit to the Rebels earlier this week.

RPM was released to the public in December. The On3 engineering group teamed up with Spiny.ai to create the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college.

It factors in machine learning, social sentiment, visits and historical trends. However, expert predictions are still a big piece of the RPM equation.

Fields has an On3 NIL Valuation of $5.2K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
