Report: Hudson Card commits to Purdue
Hudson Card was one of the nation’s best backups last season. Behind Quinn Ewers, the former Texas quarterback saw action in six games this season and 15 games over his career as a Longhorn. However, his time as a backup may be over. That’s because, after entering the transfer portal, Card has reportedly committed to a new home.
Per Pete Thamel at ESPN, Card will be a Purdue Boilermaker next season. He is set to take over Aidan O’Connell’s QB1 spot in West Lafayette after committing to play for new head coach Ryan Walters earlier on Monday.
Card played significant time over four games this season when Ewers went down with a sprained clavicle. In that time, he threw for 899 yards and six touchdowns on a 68.3% completion rate.
He arrived on The 40 Acres as a Top-5 QB and Top-75 player in 2020 per the On3 Consensus. As an Austin native, it seemed as if Card had a real chance to succeed with the Longhorns after coming out of Lake Travis High School. However, he never truly got his chance. Over his time there, he was stuck behind Sam Ehlinger, Casey Thompson, and Ewers in the quarterback room. Things weren’t getting much better either with Arch Manning on his way to join the program next year.

Card has a lot to live up to with O’Connell headed out of the program. Over the last four seasons at Purdue, he threw for just over 9,200 yards to go with 60 touchdowns. After walking on, he has spent six total seasons leading the program. Now, Card will have a great chance at filling his now-vacant spot next fall.
Card has come a long way during his college football journey. With things not working out at Texas in the end, he’s hoping his chance as Walters’ first quarterback really helps him finally break out at this level.
