According to On3’s Pete Nakos, Purdue defensive lineman Cole Brevard has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Nakos also reports that Brevard is in there with a ‘Do not contact’ tag, meaning other programs cannot get in touch with him quite yet.

Brevard has since released a statement regarding his decision to leave the program.

“First and foremost, I want to thank Purdue University, my coaches, teammates, and the entire Boilermaker Nationa for an incredible experience the past few years,” he said. “Purdue has been more than just a school to me – it’s been a family, a place where I’ve grown as a player and as a person. I am forever grateful for the opportunities I’ve had here, the lessons learned, and the friendships made.

“After careful consideration and with a heavy heart, I have decided to enter the transfer portal as a graduate transfer. This was not an easy decision, as Purdue holds a special place in my heart. However, given the current uncertainty surrounding the program, I feel it is in my best interest to explore opportunities that align with my academic and athletic goals.

“To the fans who have supported me throughout my journey – thank you for everything. Your passion and encouragement have meant the world to me, and I will carry those memories with me wherever I go.”

If Brevard does leave Purdue, his next school would be his third. Penn State was where the defensive lineman started his career, spending two years with the Nittany Lions. A move to West Lafayette was made ahead of the 2022 season as Brevard played for multiple head coaches.

Being a recruit from the 2020 class plus a redshirt means Brevard will have a sixth year of eligibility. In 38 career games, he has recorded 38 tackles, nine TFLs, and 2.5 sacks. Whoever winds up landing Brevard ahead of the 2025 season will be getting somebody quite experienced against quality Big Ten competition.

Brevard played high school football at Carmel (IN) High School, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 246 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
