Trey Kaufman-Renn let the media know that yesterday’s price is not today’s price after Purdue’s Round of 64 victory over High Point in the NCAA Tournament. He led the Boilermakers with 21 points on Thursday, and now he’s charging reporters per question as his star begins to turn.

Is Kaufman-Renn simply having some fun, or taking a new approach to NIL as March progresses? Probably the former, but it’s a sight to see regardless. Check it out below, as the Purdue forward rocked a shirt that said “$20 per Question” on it while speaking with the media on Friday, following his team’s 12-point win. Sam King of the Journal & Courier shared it on X.

All told it’s evident fans and analysts who thought Purdue was going to be upset in the Round of 64 should’ve done a little more research on Kaufman-Renn. This was par for the course from him, as he’s averaged 20.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists on the season for the Big Ten squad.

He was essential to leading Purdue to a win, knocking down 10 of his 16 field goal attempts. He could’ve had even more than 21 points, as he missed four free throws on the afternoon. He’ll certainly have to knock those down if the Boilermakers want to make a run, but it didn’t hurt them on Thursday.

In addition to Kaufman-Renn’s 21 points in 29 minutes, Braden Smith also dropped 20 in 40 minutes on the court. The duo combined for 41 points, while the rest of Purdue’s squad contributed 34 to the scoreboard. They’ll be hoping for some more offensive help in the Round of 32.

Next up for Kaufman-Renn, Smith and the Boilermakers will be the McNeese State Cowboys. They raced out to a gigantic 31-13 halftime lead over the Clemson Tigers in their Round of 64 clash. Their opponent made it interesting in the second half, but the Cowboys held on in the end for a two-point win on Thursday.

Coming into the game, Purdue is a 5.5-point favorite over McNeese, per FanDuel. The Boilermakers are also currently listed at -225 for the moneyline right now, while the Cowboys are sitting at +184.

The point total for the game is currently set at 142.5 points. It’s certainly feasible that these two teams reach that number when they face off, and Kaufman-Renn begins to cook against McNeese State.

All told, if Trey Kaufman-Renn can lead Purdue to the Sweet 16, who knows how much he’ll charge next time around. That $20 per question rate might be looked at as a steal if the Boilermakers make another run to the finals in 2025.
