Purdue issues statement on CB Markevious Brown stepping away from team

The Purdue football program released a statement following CB Markevious Brown stepping away from the team.
“It is necessary for Markevious Brown to step away from the team at this time,” the statement read. “As of today, it is our expectation that he will rejoin the program for the 2025 season. This is a personal matter, and we will have no additional comments.”
The 5-11, 180-pound senior started all four games in 2024, making nine tackles with a team-high three passes broken up.
With Brown gone, junior Botros Alisandro is expected to start opposite Nyland Green, a Georgia transfer who made his debut last week after dealing with a foot injury, per Gold and Black’s Tom Dienhart.

Markevious Brown steps away from Purdue
Brown appeared in all 12 games with 11 starts in his first season as a Boilermaker last year after transferring from Ole Miss. He recorded 45 tackles, including 32 solo and three tackles-for-loss, to go along with a team-high two forced fumbles.
As a member of the Class of 2021, Brown was a four-star recruit out of Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 38 overall prospect in the state, the No. 23 cornerback in the class and the No. 273 overall prospect in the class.
Purdue takes on Wisconsin Saturday at 12:00 p.m. ET in Madison. Sitting at 1-3 on the season, the Boilermakers look for some positives as the college football calendar turned to October.
