Purdue upset No. 2 Iowa on the road on Saturday afternoon, and offensive lineman Greg Long kicked off the celebrations in a spirited way.

Purdue knocked off Iowa 24-7 after scoring 17 unanswered points to silence a loud crowd at Kinnick Stadium.

The Boilermakers got their ninth win all-time against a top-two opponent and their first road win against a team of that caliber since a 1974 victory at Notre Dame Stadium. Long contributed to a Purdue offensive effort which posted 464 total yards and zero turnovers against one of the nation’s best defenses.

Long, a sixth-year senior, was an All-Big Ten honorable mention last season in his first year with Purdue.

An El Paso native, Long spent his first four years of college football at UTEP and made several starts, but his time was plagued by injuries. He missed part of 2017 and all of 2018 with injuries.

As a freshman in 2016, Long started four games and was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team.

Wisconsin-Purdue likely to be a low-scoring battle

Purdue is now 4-2 on the season and hosts Wisconsin next weekend. The Badgers play Army Saturday night before they prepare for the Oct. 23 game.

The contest will feature two of the better defenses in the Big Ten, as Purdue is holding their opponents to less than 15 points per game, and Wisconsin is hovering around 20 points per contest.

Entering Saturday, Wisconsin had the best pass defense in the conference. Purdue will try to get wideout David Bell, who had 240 receiving yards against Iowa, open and challenge the Badgers defense over the top.

Purdue’s pass defense ranks in the top-three in the Big Ten as well, and Wisconsin’s Graham Mertz will likely have trouble making big plays in West Lafayette. He already has seven interceptions this season and had just two touchdown passes entering Saturday night’s game against Army.
