Texas quarterback Hudson Card officially announces transfer to Purdue
Texas quarterback Hudson Card was one of the hottest names available in the NCAA transfer portal, with Purdue winning out. A huge win for newly hired head coach Ryan Walters, as he looking to maintain the momentum of a Big Ten West Championship.
Adding someone like Card is a major step forward, with the Austin native making the move official on Monday night. He tweeted out his commitment with a graphic, with everyone getting a first look at him in a Purdue uniform.
According to the On3 transfer portal rankings, Card was the No. 8 quarterback available this cycle but before committing, was No. 4 on the available list. A former highly rated four-star prospect when coming out of Austin (TX) Lake Travis, it’s a huge addition to a program such as Purdue.
A quarterback from Austin has worked out in the past for the Boilermakers, with Drew Brees bringing success from the Lone Star State. Funny enough, the two went to rival high schools, with Brees attending Austin (TX) Westlake.
Brees will now be cheering Card on, hoping the same results can happen with him as the starting quarterback. While his experience is limited during his time with Texas, Card still has some untapped potential in his locker.

More on Hudson Card, move to Purdue
Card was one of the few players to sit behind Sam Ehlinger before the quarterback position became available once again. When Steve Sarkisian took over, Card competed with Casey Thompson and initially won the starting job.
After some poor play, Thompson took over and never gave the job back. There was a time when Card was inserted against West Virginia during the 2021 season and performed well. But due to an ankle injury, he was never able to get back onto the field.
Once Thompson moved on, more competition came into the program for Card. Quinn Ewers transferred in from Ohio State as Card lost another battle. However, Ewers getting injured early in the year gave the Austin native an opportunity to come out of the bullpen and get Texas two wins.
Now, the goal for Card will be beating out another quarterback but having this one stick. There is a sense of new opportunity up in the Big Ten West, as Walters takes over an already well-off Purdue. Landing someone such as Card can help speed up the process of improving under a new head coach.
