One of the biggest players planning to transfer from Purdue is defensive back Dillon Thieneman. He was one of the centerpieces of the Boilermakers defense, leading the team with 104 tackles, including five tackles for loss and a sack. He also recorded seven passes defended in the secondary.
That came after an impressive freshman season in West Lafayette. Thieneman had 106 tackles and two tackles for loss while also leading Purdue with six interceptions. That helped him earn Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors and a Third Team All-American selection. Thieneman will have two years of eligibility remaining and is sure to be one of the top defensive backs on the open market.
The NCAA transfer portal officially opens Monday following the final College Football Playoff rankings reveal. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers. That means roughly 25% of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year.
