Trenton (N.J.) Hun School four-star linebacker Kamar Archie has committed to Rutgers, he announced on Friday.

He chose the Scarlet Knights over Clemson and Michigan in a major in-state recruiting win for head coach Greg Schiano, defensive coordinator Joe Harasymiak and Co.

Archie is the No. 261 overall prospect and No. 28 LB in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 9 player in New Jersey.

On3 ranks the 6-foot-0.5, 220-pounder higher than other recruiting services. He checks in at No. 196 overall, No. 21 at the LB position and No. 7 in the Garden State.

Archie has been a frequent visitor in Piscataway throughout his recruitment, logging multiple trips a year since 2022. He now headlines Rutgers’ 2025 recruiting class — which quietly checks in inside the top 20 of the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Across three high school seasons, Archie has racked up over 160 tackles while also excelling as a running back, tallying over 1,500 yards on the ground and 20 touchdowns. He’s now the fourth LB commit in Rutgers’ class.

Scarlet Knights nearing 30 commitments in 2025 class

Schiano and Co. landed practically an entire class worth of commitments in June, hauling in 20 total pledges. With Archie now in the mix, the Knights have 29 commits overall, which is currently the most of any Power Four program.

The class is far more than just local fodder, too. Seven four-stars are now in the class overall — four of whom are top-300 prospects overall.

Jersey City (N.J.) Henry Snyder four-star LB DJ McClary flipped to Rutgers from Penn State and is now the top-ranked commit overall. Upper Marlboro (Md.) St. John’s four-star safety Tariq Hayer, Barnegat (N.J.) Donovan Catholic four-star wide receiver Michael Thomas, Toms River (N.J.) North four-star offensive tackle Jaelyne Matthews, Baltimore Paul Laurence Dunbar four-star interior offensive lineman Joshua Blackston and Atlanta North four-star EDGE Chase Linton all also committed in June.

“The connection me and coach Schiano have is different,” Matthews told On3. “He is a great guy with the same principles and morals that my family has. He is going to train me to be the best man I can be off the field and push me to be the best football player I can be on the field.

“As soon as coach Schiano got there, he took over my recruitment and made me a priority. He got on me my sophomore year, then really came hard my junior year and how we built that relationship over time really made an impact on my decision.”
