ATH Jashon Benjamin commits to Rutgers

Pahokee (Fla.) athlete Jashon Benjamin committed to Rutgers on Wednesday. He chose the Scarlet Knights over programs including Memphis.
Benjamin is not ranked in the 2023 On3 Consensus or the 2023 On300. He is 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds.
The Scarlet Knights’ 2023 recruiting class now contains 18 commitments following Benjamin’s pledge. He is one of three athletes in the group alongside Newburgh (N.Y.) Newburgh Free Academy three-star Deondre Johnson and Orlando (Fla.) Orlando Christian Prep three-star Vilay Nakkoun.
Rutgers’ class ranks No. 57 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 11 in the Big Ten. The Scarlet Knights’ highest-rated prospect is Union City (N.J.) three-star interior offensive lineman JaSire Peterson, the No. 492 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus.

Benjamin is Rutgers’ second commitment of September. Colleyville (Texas) IMG Academy long snapper Jake Eldridge announced his pledge to the Scarlet Knights on Sept. 5.
Rutgers landed no commitments in August and only one July pledge in Pleasantville (N.J.) Irvington three-star wide receiver Famah Toure. However, the Scarlet Knights had a big June on the recruiting trail, landing 10 commitments from prospects including Estero (Fla.) three-star wide receiver Jason Duclona and Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola three-star cornerback Bo Mascoe.
Benjamin has an On3 NIL Valuation of $5.8K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
