Former Minnesota QB Athan Kaliakmanis commits to Rutgers

Former Minnesota quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis committed to Rutgers, according to his Twitter page. He reunites with offensive coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca.

The former four-star recruit emerged as the starter this year in Minnesota. He’s thrown for 2,784 career yards, 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Kaliakmanis announced his decision to enter the transfer portal in November.

As a member of the Class of 2021, Kaliakmanis was a four-star recruit out of Antioch (Ill.) Community, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 2 overall prospect in the state, the No. 23 quarterback in the class and the No. 237 overall prospect in the class.

Not only that, his brother Dino Kaliakmanis, a wide receiver, also committed to Rutgers.

Athan Kaliakmanis joins a quarterback room featuring former four-star Gavin Wimsatt. Wimsatt saw improvements in 2023, but still struggled with accuracy and consistency.

Still, he led Rutgers to a 7-6 record and a win over Miami in the Pinstripe Bowl. Now, there’s an impending quarterback competition in 2024.
