Top-40 junior guard Kur Teng sets commitment date

Kur Teng, a four-star shooting guard in the class of 2024, will announce his college decision on Monday, April 3rd, he told On3.

The 6-foot-4 junior out of Haverhill (Mass.) Bradford Christian Academy is choosing between three schools: Michigan State, Rutgers, and Providence. He has officially visited each of the programs.

Teng ranks as the No. 36 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings — the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies (ESPN, 247Sports, Rivals, On3). He’s also the nation’s No. 10 shooting guard and the No. 1 player in the state of Massachusetts.

Teng talks Michigan State, Rutgers

In a previous interview with On3, Teng gave his thoughts on both the Spartans and Scarlet Knights.

Michigan State: “Just seeing how close they are, it’s really a family atmosphere. And it isn’t just the basketball team; the whole school and campus are connected like that.

I like their play style. They go really hard, so they will push me to continue getting better.”

Rutgers: “I like their play style. I can tell the coach is really close with the players. They’re a good team, and it’s a good program, really. I watched a couple of their games this season. They play really hard. I like how they set up their scorers.”

What Teng is looking for in a program

“I want to go to a program where I have the best relationships with the players with the coaches, a place where I feel comfortable with the people,” he said. “I like to come off a lot of pin-downs and screens, have some plays run for me to get looks, so I’ll look at how they plan to use me and how they use guys like me.”

“Kur Teng has a basketball frame, with broad shoulders and long arms. He has a smooth feel on the floor, with a great pace. A smooth catch and shoot player with consistent picture-esque form. While Teng is a slightly above-average athlete, he can attack closeouts and get to the basket or pull-up for a jump shot. Comes from basketball genes as he has multiple siblings currently playing college basketball. Coaches and those around him rave about the work ethic and approach.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
