Class of 2024 four-star recruit Pharaoh Compton has committed to San Diego State, becoming the program’s first top-100 recruit since 2015.

The 6-foot-7, 215-pound power forward out of Las Vegas Arbor View ultimately chose the Aztecs over Iowa. He also received offers from UNLV, LSU, and Tennessee.

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Compton is the No. 91 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle. He’s also the No. 14 power forward prospect. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Compton on his commitment to San Diego State

“I chose San Diego State over the rest of the schools because ever since I started building that relationship with the coaches, they made sure to build one with those around me as well. That’s really important when you’re getting ready to move away from your family onto somewhere whom you have a limited amount of time to build a relationship with. Even after I visited the university, it just felt right. Most importantly, they have a winning culture. I’m not shy at all when it comes to winning and playing defense; two things that are a staple of San Diego State basketball.”

In his own words, what type of player is SDSU getting in Compton?

“I would describe my game as someone who hasn’t reached anywhere close to his potential but is fully aware of what it takes to be great. I am someone who can finish really well around the rim and can also protect the rim on the other side as well. That just comes along with playing with a crazy motor the whole game. Most importantly, I’m someone who talks the entire possession on defense, showing that I am capable of being a leader. I’m also a very underrated passer with tons of court vision, something most people wouldn’t think I have. This season, people also see how I’ve improved my jump shot along with my handle.”

Compton has a message for Aztec fans.

“It’s only the start of what will become something great at San Diego State.”

Scouting Report

“Pharaoh Compton is a strong, active player. He is the type who enjoys doing the tough guy stuff, the rebounding, the defending, the screening. Offensively, his game extends to about ten feet, but if he gets it in those ten feet, he tries to dunk everything. Compton has good hands and really tracks the ball at a high level on the boards. There is no fear in his game. Despite being undersized, he is a good post defender. He moves well. He is explosive. Activity and toughness are his game.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
