Report: Colorado staffer Darian Hagan joins Sean Lewis at San Diego State
Former Colorado offensive coordinator Sean Lewis is being joined by another Buffaloes staff member at San Diego State. Darian Hagan has been hired to coach running backs at San Diego State, according to Brandon Marcello.
Hagan was serving as the Executive Director of Community Engagement and Outreach/FB Ambassador at Colorado. He was previously the running backs coach at the school on two separate occassions.
Darian Hagan spent 19 seasons overall at Colorado, working in different roles. In addition to working as the team’s running backs coach, he was also previously the director of personnel and director of player development for the Buffaloes.
Prior to getting into coaching, Hagans was a star player at Colorado. He played quarterback for the Buffaloes from 1988-1991, leading the program to its first national championship.
Colorado was 28-5-2 with Darian Hagan as the starting quarterback. In 1989, Hagan rushed for over 1,000 yards and passed for over 1,000 yards in the same season, finishing fifth in Heisman voting. He still owns several Colorado school records.
Hagan has been inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.
Report: Colorado defensive ends coach Nick Williams not returning to program
Darian Hagan is far from the only staff member who won’t be returning to Colorado for the 2024 season.
Colorado defensive ends coach Nick Williams is not returning to the program, according to a report from Steve Wiltfong. He joined Deion Sanders’ staff this past year.

The job at Colorado was Williams’ first full-time coaching opportunity. He got his start as a graduate assistant at Georgia from 2019-20 before heading to Texas A&M as an analyst, focusing on work with the defensive lineman.
Williams played at Georgia from 2008-10, appearing in 32 games during that span. He then transferred to North Alabama, where he had 62 tackles and two interceptions as a senior in 2013 after two redshirt seasons.
Williams then played one year in the Canadian Football League, but decided to get into coaching as a student assistant in 2018 before moving up to graduate assistant.
Williams is the latest loss for Sanders’ staff in Boulder. Offensive coordinator Sean Lewis departed earlier this week to become the head coach at San Diego State. Lewis served as the primary play-caller through most of this year, but Sanders tabbed former NFL coach Pat Shurmur to take over those duties later in the year. Colorado finished with a 4-8 record after starting the season with a 4-2 mark.
