Has SMU found its presidential good luck charm? Considering who was seen courtside during the Mustangs’ upset win Wednesday night, they might have.

Former President George W. Bush was seen taking in SMU’s 85-83 victory over No. 6 Houston on Wednesday night. At one point, the 43rd president even threw up a “W” with his hands when SMU was up 83-81 with 38.9 seconds left. It’s safe to say he was happy about how the game went as the Mustangs picked up the huge W.

Bush, a Dallas native and former Texas governor, must’ve brought some magic with him as SMU picked up its biggest victory of the year. The Mustangs handed Houston its first American Athletic Conference loss of the year to improve to 8-2 in AAC action.

Bush is a staple at SMU and has been at multiple Mustangs games this year. In fact, the George W. Bush Presidential Center is on SMU’s campus and he gave the commencement address in 2015.

It was quite a turnaround from the weekend when SMU fell to Wichita State 72-57 on the road. That’s how you bounce back.

After all, you have to play well when a former president’s in the building, right?
