DeSoto (Texas) four-star wide receiver Daylon Singleton has committed to SMU.

He chose the Mustangs while holding offers from the likes of Texas A&M, Oregon, Auburn, Miami and Michigan.

Singleton is the No. 246 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 37 WR and No. 43 player in Texas.

“I’m definitely on SMU. They’re in my top five right now and I have a great bond with Danny West. I’ve known him since I was 8 or 9 years old, so I know him really well and I’m really close with him,” Singleton told On3’s Sam Spiegelman in June.

Singleton recently took a visit to SMU at the end of July, his first trip to Dallas since April. He put himself on the radar of colleges around the state and around the country during DeSoto High School’s march toward a state championship last season.

Singleton, a major contributor on the Eagles’ offense as a sophomore last season, had a massive growth spurt this offseason. The On3 Industry Ranking four-star wide receiver has added almost three inches and 15 pounds to his frame, checking in at close to 6-foot and 175 pounds this spring.

Singleton helping SMU build big 2025 class

Singleton is the third pledge in SMU’s 2025 class, joining Tyler (Texas) Chapel Hill teammates, four-star running back Rickey Stewart Jr. and four-star athlete Demetrious Brisbon Jr. Stewart is the cycle’s No. 22 RB, while Brisbon is the No. 22 athlete in the class.

The Mustangs are navigating the move to the Atlantic Coast Conference, but recruiting the Lone Star State remains a top priority. Five of SMU’s eight commits in its 2024 class are Texans, while the three commits in the ’25 cycle fit that same mold.

SMU will have a year under its belt in the Atlantic Coast Conference when the 2025 recruiting class arrives on campus. With the invitation to a power conference, Rhett Lashlee’s staff have its sights set on a historic recruiting class,” On The Pony Express’ Billy Embody said.

“There are other players to watch across the state and country for SMU, but Dallas is home base for this staff. History could await this group if they embrace staying home together. With the ACC invite, maybe it’s time that SMU kicks that door down and truly keeps the top talent home. It’s certainly on Lashlee and his staff, but the decision is in the prospects’ corner.”
