South Carolina has picked up a big-time commitment out of the NCAA Transfer Portal as former Alabama linebacker Justin Okoronkwo has committed to the Gamecocks. On3’s Pete Nakos has confirmed the signing.

Okoronkwo is heading to South Carolina after spending one season at Alabama. He played in all 13 games for the Crimson Tide in 2024, finishing the year with 14 tackles, including 0.5 tackles for loss.

Okoronkwo is from Germany. He originally chose Alabama over Michigan, Penn State, Nebraska, South Carolina and others. Okoronkwo entered the transfer portal earlier this month after playing for Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Michigan. He committed to the Crimson Tide back in July of 2023.

Okoronkwo helped Alabama to a 9-4 record in 2024, which was Kalen DeBoer’s first season as the Crimson Tide head coach. He is now joining a South Carolina program that also finished with a 9-4 record this past season. The Gamecocks bring back a lot of talent, particularly on offense. But they are losing several key players on defense. Perhaps Okoronkwo can step in and be an impact player for the Gamecocks.

Troy transfer OL Boaz Stanley commits to South Carolina

Justin Okoronkwo isn’t the only transfer portal addition for South Carolina this week. Former Troy offensive lineman Boaz Stanley committed to the Gamecocks on Monday.

Stanley started in all 12 of Troy’s regular season games this season. In total, he played 786 snaps, with 466 coming at center and 320 at right tackle. Stanley only allowed two sacks in 405 passing situations and was not called for a penalty all season.

Stanley missed most of the 2023 campaign due to injury. In his lone season at Georgia Military, he earned All-America honors as a freshman after recording 60-plus knockdown blocks.

Stanley played high school football at North Oconee (GA), where he was an unranked prospect, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Stanley is one of three offensive linemen the Gamecocks have added via the transfer portal this offseason. He is joined by Rodney Newsom (Western Kentucky) and Nick Sharpe (Wake Forest).
