Auburn quarterback transfer Robby Ashford commits to South Carolina
Auburn quarterback Robby Ashford has committed to South Carolina out of the NCAA transfer portal.
The former Tigers gunslinger entered the portal following his redshirt freshman season, when it became clear he was stuck behind Michigan State transfer Payton Thorne.
Ashford played sparingly at quarterback in 2023, though he was still used as an occasional change of pace as a running threat. He finished 14-of-27 passing for 145 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, while also adding 217 yards and five touchdowns rushing.
He played quite a good deal more than than that in 2022, prior to the arrival of coach Hugh Freeze.
In 2022, Ashford went 123-of-250 passing for 1,613 yards, with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also ran for 710 yards and seven scores.
Prior to enrolling at Auburn, Robby Ashford was a four-star prospect and the No. 318 overall recruit in the 2020 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
He also checked in as the No. 23 quarterback in his class and the No. 14 overall player in the state of Alabama, hailing from Hoover (AL) Hoover.
