Brit Harris update: Lamont Paris sends well wishes to USC Upstate guard after fall
The game between South Carolina and USC Upstate was marred by the injury to Brit Harris. After he took a hard fall, Gamecocks head coach Lamont Paris wished for the best possible outcome for the Spartans guard.
As Paris explained, he’s hopeful that the injury Harris suffered only ends up being a minor one and that it was not a serious injury.
“Hopefully, as we continue to get updates,” Lamont Paris said. “I stopped in their locker room and asked Marty [Richter] to keep me updated on what the final outcome for the young man is, and hopefully it’s something minor. Just a scare, hopefully. Maybe it’ll be sore tomorrow or the next couple of days, but hopefully, it’s something relatively minor.”
Brit Harris was injured during Saturday night’s game when he dunked on a fast break chance in the second half. He held onto the rim for a second but when he let go took a scary fall, seemingly landing on his head and neck area once he hit the ground.
On the court, USC Upsate teammates called for immediate medical assistance for Brit Harris. He then was placed on a stretcher and taken off the floor, moving his hand for the audience as he left the court.

Luckily, there have been some positive updates on Brit Harris since the scary injury. USC Update play-by-play broadcaster Ryan Cleary posted on social media that he was “moving and communicating” after suffering the fall. On top of that, the school shared that he was discharged from the hospital and is “back in Spartanburg and on the road to recovery.”
Brit Harris is a junior who transferred to USC Upstate after playing the first two seasons of his college career at Grand Valley State. There, he was named to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team.
In the end, South Carolina and Lamont Paris ended up beating USC Upstate 73-53. That win was largely built on the back of a strong second half performance by the Gamecocks where they scored 38 points. The second half defensive effort was even stronger, only giving up 25 points to the Spartans. South Carolina forward Nick Pringle would lead the way, scoring 19 points in the win. It was a fourth-straight win for the Gamecocks.
The Gamecocks will look to continue those winning ways on Tuesday with a major test against one of their rivals, the Clemson Tigers.
