Charlotte transfer third baseman Ella Chancey commits to South Carolina
The South Carolina Gamecocks’ women’s softball team was busy landing transfer prospects in the portal on Saturday night. They reeled in the commitment of Ella Chancey, a standout from the Charlotte 49ers, according to Wes Mitchell of GamecockCentral.com. The Gamecocks finished the 2024 campaign with a overall record of 36-24, including 8-16 in the SEC.
Chancey earned first team All-AAC honors this year, hitting six home runs, 38 RBIs, 31 runs, eight doubles, and 24 walks.
She set a number of records during her time with the 49ers, including home runs for a freshman (11 in 2022) and RBIs for a freshman (38). Both of those were set in 2022. As a junior in 2024, she tacked on eight stolen bases. And she also had a six-game hitting streak from April 6th-17th. Chancey was named to the AAC All-Tournament Team after the 49ers won the 2024 AAC Tournament title. She ended the year on a four-game hitting streak.
As a sophomore with Charlotte in 2023, Chancey played in 58 games, finishing the year with nine home runs, 24 RBIs, four doubles, two triples, and a stolen base. She finished with seven multi-RBI games and nine multi-hit games, including a three-hit performance against the Campbell Camels in the NCAA Regionals. Chancey went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and two RBIs in the 49ers’ 6-4 win over Campbell.

As a freshman in 2022, Chancey played in 58 games, starting 57 of those. She finished the year with a .322 batting average (58-for-180) with 11 home runs, 38 RBIs, six doubles, three triples, and four stolen bases. Both of those RBI and home run totals as a freshman were school records.
Chancey will be joining a roster that features a stacked 2024 recruiting class for the Gamecocks. They signed a class that was rated as the No. 11 class in the country by Extra Inning Softball. The highest rated signee of the group is Olivia Kotowski, who pitches and plays first base.
She was ranked as the No. 23 overall player in the country by Extra Inning Softball. Kotowski played for Parkview (Lilburn, Georgia), where she earned All-State honorable mention honors as a junior. She wrapped up her career as the Panthers all-time leader in career wins, and both single-season and career leader in home runs
