Cole Messina and South Carolina’s season may have came to an end on Saturday, but their journey is far from over.

The Gamecocks star catcher watched as his team fell to the Florida Gators in the Super Regional, as Messina was held hitless over four at-bats. Afterwards, he took to Twitter to share a positive message with South Carolina faithful, believing the best is yet to come.

“Proud is what you say about where your from,” tweeted Messina. “Man I’m proud to be a gamecock, we’ll see y’all next year (heart emoji).”

Throughout the 2023 season, Messina was consistently one of the best players in the entire nation. South Carolina will always have a shot, as long as their catcher is playing at the top of his game, and there’s no reason to think he won’t be moving forward.

Nevertheless, the Gamecocks’ performance in the Super Regionals certainly stings, as they’re watching their SEC rival in Florida advance. But we’re willing to bet Cole Messina and the South Carolina Gamecocks will be using that as motivation to reach even higher in 2024.

More on Day 3 of 2023 Super Regionals

Meanwhile, it’s Sunday of Super Regional weekend, meaning one thing. A few tickets to the College World Series are going to be punched.

Something every team in the country has been working toward all season, a few flights are going to be booked to Omaha in the near future. In what has been an exciting NCAA Tournament, we are nearing the final eight teams.

Two tickets to Omaha were punched on Saturday.  Florida was the first to advance to the College World Series with a 4-0 win and sweep of South Carolina in the Gainesville Super Regional. The Gators were joined as ticket holders to Omaha by TCU, which completed the sweep of Indiana State on Saturday evening with a 6-4 win over the Sycamores in the Forth Worth Super Regional.

To no surprise, weather played a huge factor in the schedule on Saturday. Plenty of games were pushed back due to rain/lightning being in the area. The Hattiesburg did not complete Game 1 on Saturday due to weather. The game was suspended in the fourth inning with Southern Miss leading Tennessee, 4-0.

Everyone will be hoping Mother Nature stays away on Sunday, leaving us with a full, great day of baseball.
